The traditional approach to choosing a career is to evaluate primarily three aspects, namely:

1) The demand in the marketplace for specific careers

2) Your skills and abillities

3) Your personality / temperament

And then the next step is to choose a field of study (a university degree or apprenticeship), which then by default becomes your career. Examples:

If you are good at Mathematics at school, then you should:

1) Study Accounting and become an Accountant, or

2) Study Actuarial Science and become an Actuary, or

3) Study Engineering and become an Engineer.

Is it any wonder that this approach has caused so many people to either change their major during the first year, quit studying before finishing their degree or worst of all, end up in a job for 40 years where they feel completely unfulfilled, unhappy and dissillusioned.
